Spotify streaming music service is now available on PS3 and PS4.
Earlier this year Sony announced a partnership with Spotify. Now Spotify has launched on the PlayStation platform in 41 markets around the world. The launch coincides with Jay Z’s Tidal music streaming service. Spotify and SNEI have worked closely to build an entirely new Spotify interface that works on a TV display and can be used with a DUALSHOCK wireless controller.
“Music has always been a big part of gaming,” says Gustav Söderström, Chief Product Officer at Spotify. “I remember playing computer games like Quake and Counter-Strike with my favorite tunes on in the background – taking the experience to a whole new level. With today’s launch, we’re bringing back that magic of gaming with music – all in a beautifully designed and smooth experience that looks great on the big screen”.
“PlayStation™Network is the premier destination for digital entertainment and we’re excited that millions of users around the world can now enjoy the most compelling music service on their PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 systems,” said John Kodera, President, Sony Network Entertainment International. “With Spotify as the foundation of PlayStation Music, we’ll continue to evolve the service to deliver the best entertainment experience that gamers have come to expect from PlayStation Network.”
Spotify works on the PS3 and PS4. To use Spotify on PlayStation users need to:
1) Fire up your PlayStation
2) Go to PlayStation Music on the content launcher on PS4, or find Spotify in the Music section on PS3
3) Log in or create a new account
The PlayStation platform gives Spotify another platform to reach new users. Ahead of the anticipated launch of Apple’s Beats Music service, Spotify needs expansion even more.
