Starz is going to premiere The Evil Dead TV series in 2015.
Starz, the American satellite television network has ordered the ‘Evil Dead’ TV show, which will be premiered in 2015. This is a follow-up to the classic film and we will see the original filmmaker’s team up once again. This includes the original franchise director Sam Raimi who will produce the TV series and also direct the first episode of the series.
Alongside Sam, we will also see Rob Tapert and star Bruce Campbell as executive producers. However Campbell’s role does not end here. He will also play the role of Ash in this TV series. Ash is the stock boy and the chainsaw-handed demon hunter who has wasted the last 30 years refraining from his responsibility and the horrors of ‘Evil Dead’.
However as a deadite plague is on the brink of destroying the whole of mankind, Ash finally wakes up and is forced to face his demons but it seems that destiny has planned something else for our hero and has no plans to release it from its destructive hold.
Campbell has previously also played the role of Ash, in ‘The Evil Dead (1981)’, ‘Evil Dead II (1987)’ and ‘Army of Darkness (1992)’. Last year at Comic-Con, Raimi had revealed that he was busy in the making of a show based on the films and wanted Bruce Campbell to star in it.
Campbell recently stated that he was really excited to deliver this series to the ‘Evil Dead’ fans around the globe. It’s everything that they have been waiting for, the deadite ass-kicking and plenty of shocking humor.
“I’m really excited to bring this series to the Evil Dead fans worldwide — it’s going to be everything they have been clamoring for: serious deadite ass-kicking and plenty of outrageous humor,” Campbell said.
It is believed that the first episode titled ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ is being directed by Raimi with the help of his brother Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy. Raimi stated that ‘Evil Dead’ has always been amusing and we three (Rob and Bruce) are excited to have this chance to tell the next chapter in this amazing series.
He explained that Ash is back to kick some monster butt and that this time there is a load of it. This first episode also brings together Sam Raimi and Tapert with Starz. Previously the two had executive produced Starz’s first scripted hit, drama Spartacus.
“Evil Dead has always been a blast,” Raimi said. “Bruce, Rob, and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to tell the next chapter in Ash’s lame, but heroic saga. With his chainsaw arm and his ‘boomstick,’ Ash is back to kick some monster butt. And brother, this time there’s a truckload of it.”
Starz MD Carmi Zlotnik said, “Starz first worked with Sam and Rob on Spartacus, and we are thrilled to be back in business with them. With Sam writing and directing and Bruce Campbell returning to the screen, we are certain the show will give Evil Dead fans around the world the fix they’ve been craving.
If we remember the original ‘Evil Dead’ film, we will go back to the cabin in the woods where Ash and his friends went to spend some time. There they released demons that were eager on possessing the living. The film was a super hit, with two sequels which were also directed by Raimi and produced by Tapert.
We saw Campbell starring in all the parts of the franchise. The film was also adapted by video games and comics. Recently we also experienced a feature reboot produced by Raimi and Tapert and directed by Fede Alvarez.
Let’s hope this series is according to the expectations of the ‘Evil Dead’ fans. Well it ought to be as the current team has never disappointed their fans before.
