Toei Animation to debut new Dragon Ball Super series this July

Toei Animaton announced its plan to produce a new Dragon Ball Z series!

Toei Animation will be producing a new Dragon Ball Z series with the Japanese title Dragon Ball Super. The news has come 18 years after the original Dragon Ball series ended. The new series will be overseen by Akira Toriyama and will make its debut on the Japanese channel Fuji TV in July 2015.  

The English title for the new sequel series to Dragon Ball Z is still tentative. Dragon Ball Super will be a direct sequel to the original Dragon Ball Z and it will feature the same characters from the original and relay their adventures after the events of the original end. The story will pick up after the Son Goku’s fierce battle against Majin Buu took place as Goku tries to maintain earth’s peace. 

Osamu Nozaki an avid fan of the Dragon Ball Z and the current producer of Fuji television shared he is very excited to be a part of the project. According to Nozaki he has been a fan since childhood and Toriyama has developed a dream come true plot for the sequel. The sequel will be a delight for the existing millions of fans and the latest generation of viewers.

“Having loved Dragon Ball since childhood, it is very exciting to be a part of this project,” said Osamu Nozaki, producer for Fuji Television. “Mr. Toriyama has developed a plot that’s not only a dream come true for Dragon Ball’s millions of fans, but one that will foster in a new generation of viewers.” 

Masako Nozawa the Japanese actor who provided his voice for the character of Dragon Ball’s Son Goku, Son Gohan and Son Goten said he hopes the new series will have the same level of impact as the original. Nozawa also hopes the new series last on TV for a long time. 

“I’ve used the word ‘cho’ (super) in so many commercials, games and other media, it is fantastic that the long awaited Dragon Ball Super will finally begin,” said Masako Nozawa, Japanese voice actress of Dragon Ball’s Son Goku, Son Gohan and Son Goten. “I hope that this series will last a long time and have the same impact around the world as its predecessor.”

“When I joined Toei Animation, one of my first assignments saw me working on the production of Dragon Ball Z,” said Atsushi Kido, producer for Toei Animation. “While there for only a short period of time, being a part of the series left a lasting impression. We look forward to carrying on Dragon Ball’s tremendous legacy, bringing audiences a brand new Dragon Ball with the same sense of heart and commitment that went into past Dragon Ball productions.”

The Dragon Ball Z story started as a comic book published by Shueisha Inc. in 1984 and went on to evolve in a global phenomenon with 230 comic sold till today. The Dragon Ball Z story has also produced about 200 TV series and 220 feature films.
