Universal /4/undertake Steve Jobs Biopic after Sony’s Withdrawal

Sony Pictures has chosen to opt out of the Steve Jobs biopic which is currently being looked into. And it is reported that Universal can make Jobs movie.

Sony has backed out of its deal to bankroll the Steve Jobs biopic, according to Variety. Thus the whole project has suffered a severe setback. When asked for comments on the decision, there was no reply from the representatives. It is Universal Studios that is now looking forward to making a grab for the venture. 

The actor, Christian Bale, is definitely out as far as participating in the film is concerned. Therefore, Michael Fassbender /4/take his place and star as the Apple head. Seth Rogen /4/play Steve Wozniak, his sidekick who later on left the fold. 

The biopic is based on Walter Isaacson’s memoir of the same name. The director is Danny Boyle and the screenplay was adapted by Aaron Sorkin. What remains a mystery is why Sony dropped the whole deal in the middle of preparations. 

Sony had gotten the copyright approval to show the tech mogul’s life story after his death from cancer about three years ago. Aaron Sorkin has spoken of how the film would have three sections based upon a launch of an Apple product everytime. And Jobs’ daughter Lisa would be the protagonist in the movie.  

This is not the first time that a Steve Jobs film has come out for public viewing. In 2013, “Jobs” came out to much applause but it earned a lousy $36 million at the box office. Ashton Kutcher played Jobs’ character while Josh Gad played Steve Wozniak. Sorkin and Sony have also produced the movie titled Moneyball.

They are responsible for the film “The Social Network” which is about the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. That one was an instant hit and raked in $220 million in cold hard cash. Just because Sony left the biopic-making activities high and dry doesn’t mean that someon else won’t be financing the much-slated movie.

As mentioned earlier, Universal Studios /4/just have its eyes set on the project. According to Deadline, the director on this one about Steve Jobs is none other than Danny Boyle, the same man who directed the famous and controversial Slumdog Millionaire.

Currently, the execs responsible for the whole thing are looking into a replacement for Christian Bale who also backed out of the deal just like Sony. It is yet to be seen who will finally get to play Jobs’ character on screen.
