Sabado Gigante ends after having a 53 years run

The final airing of the top-rated show will be on September 19

Sabado Ginate, a popular Spanish language show, is about to end after going on air for 53 years, according to Los Angeles Time.

Based around entertainment, talent contests and family reunions, Sabado Gigante or Giant Saturday, is a top-rated variety show among Hispanics living in United States and according to the Guinness World Records, it was the longest running show ever in the world.

The show started in 1962 on a Chilean TV Network Canal 13. Then, in 1986, it took by a Miami based network called Univision with an idea to capture the interest of U.S Hispanics. The show aired in 40 countries and enjoyed by millions of viewers throughout the world, including 2 million in U.S. alone. The final episode is scheduled to be broadcast on Sep. 19. However, the reason for ending the show is not provided yet.

Sabado Ginate which was created and hosted by Don Francisco, never experienced drop in popularly and had a remarkably consistent rating throughout those years. 

Talking about success of the show, the 74 years old Don Francisco explained. “From the start we made sure to ask, what does the audience want? And we have worked tirelessly for preciously that audience, with the utmost dedication, humanity and deep respect.” Don Francisco whose real life name is Mario Kreutzberger added, “I have no words to acknowledge all the recognition and applause that we have received over the years.”

For those who are interested in knowing about the future of Don Francisco, it has been reported that he will remain associated with the network in one way or another maybe planning for another show of similar nature.
