Hozier and Annie Lennox sung a duet on the Grammy stage and absolutely killed it. It was a phenomenal performance given that both the stars weren’t ready to do it initially.

Hozier has definitely been the talk this Grammy season as his song Take Me to Church has been nominated for the Best Song along with some real hot shots. Although he lost the golden gramophone to Sam Smith, the performance was just as much anticipated on the Grammy stage.

It’s a Grammy tradition to fuse old with new which turns up some great performances. This year’s duet line up had us all excited. Among those was the duet that Hozier was doing and what better to set off his deep voice were the blues and classics and who was the perfect voice to set off that exuberant tone.

The 60 years old singer Annie Lennox was asked to perform with the young singer and she has her reservations earlier about actually doing it. She said that she wasn’t sure about it initially and they had to determine whether the performance was destined to be after they actually got in a room. When the Irish and Scott singer actually got together to rehearse in the Staples Centre, Annie said that she actually felt that he was nervous which was a little bemusing because she isn’t intimidating at all.

Once they started singing, every doubt fell away and Annie had nothing but nice things to say about the rising star.

On the Grammy stage, Hozier started the performance with “Take Me to Church” in all its depth and spirituality. By the middle of the song, he announced Annie’s name as she joined him on the stage to finish the song from half. Hozier’s vocals were amazing but once Annie sung along with him, it was other worldly. In a manner, experience dominated talent and she out sung Hozier at his own song. She then continued to sing her hit song, “I Put a Spell on You” while Hozier gave her guitar support.

My o my! For a 60 years old, the woman can still sing. Annie blew the roof of the Grammys with her performance while Hozier smiled as Annie danced and gave a special mouth percussion of her own. Everyone was standing by the end of the performance and the audience was surely moving along with Annie’s voice.
