Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform coming in Windows 10 is enabling a new way of computing on mobile phones.
The closer Windows 10 gets the better it looks. Let’s just hope Microsoft is not f!@#ing it up with incompatible drivers and Blue Screen of Death. Microsoft believes strongly in Windows 10 and predicts that their will be one billion devices running Windows 10 within two to three years. That sounds possible as Windows 10 runs any device from Raspberry Pi powered IoT devices over smartphones, gaming consoles to PCs and the incredible HoloLens.
Windows 10 not only runs on any device, but also apps can run on all devices enabled by the Universal Windows Platform. Microsoft calls this Continuum. Universal Windows apps will be able to run on smartphones and when connecting the phone to a display the apps provide a desktop interface. The Windows phones allow also for two screen use. Microsoft also delivers new developer tools that make it easy for developers to bring their iOS and Android app to Windows Phones. As Universal Windows apps work on any Windows 10 device developer have a potential reach of 1 billion devices via the Windows App Store within the next two to three years.
Microsoft also redesigned the web browser. Windows 10 devices will have instead of Microsoft Explorer the new Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge has h built-in note taking and sharing; a reading pane for no distractions; and integration with Cortana.
