The Late Show with David Letterman is history. Last night the long running host of Late Night has said good-bye. Steven Colbert will take over the Late Show on CBS this fall.

Hours after the last show of David Letterman the hashtag #ThanksDave is still the top trending hashtag in the United States. Fans of Dave Letterman say good-bye as David Letterman hosted his last Late Night Show on CBS. Steven Colbert from Comedy Central will take over the Late Show. This has been already revealed a year ago and fans had a long time to prepare for the end.

CBS has now released the highlights of David Letterman’s last show including his monologue, Top 10 list, wishes for Colbert, Obama and final thank you and good night.

David Letterman took the stage to a long standing ovation from the live audience.

It took a while to calm the audience so Letterman could start his monologue.

The President of the United and some of his predecessors say good bye to Letterman in the nicest way imaginable.

David Letterman has been in Late Night television for over 30 years. He was hosting the Late Show on CBS for 21 years. The Foo Fighters of all bands have appeared on Letterman’s last show playing Everlong. They have been the only guests.

In the shows leading up to his last one, Letterman welcomed many iconic celebrities and performers including Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Bob Dylan, Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Roberts, President Obama, Bill Clinton, Oprah and Howard Stern.
