Microsoft cut the price of the Xbox One to match the Sony PS4. The company though also cut a major feature that is now available as expensive accessory.
Microsoft had such a huge success with the Xbox 360 and they still do. Just see the new Xbox 360 Holiday line-up for 2014. The new Xbox One is though a completely different story. Sony beat Microsoft in sales with the Sony PS4, because Sony did everything right. Priced at $399 the Sony PS4 was $100 cheaper than the Xbox One at launch. Microsoft has now a new Xbox One on the market that matches the PS4 price. The $399 Xbox One though lacks a major feature. It has no Kinect sensor.
Microsoft has now started to sell the Xbox One Sensor accessory. The Kinect Sensor comes bundled with the Dance Central Spotlight and sells for $149.99. Dance Central Spotlight is though just a $9.99 value. This is the price the game sells in the digital. Xbox Game Store. So the stand-alone Xbox One Kinect Sensor costs you $140. This means instead of lowering the Xbox One price, Microsoft actually increased it by $40. Here is what is going to happen. Kinect technology is going to fade away.
Casual gamers will not shell out $150 to get Kinect functionality. Microsoft was so proud of Kinect. It had big momentum, but this new pricing strategy is killing it.
Just to proof this assumption check out the sales rank of the Xbox One Kinect Sensor on Amazon. The product is available since Oct. 7. It is ranked on #83 in the Best Sellers for Xbox One. It is almost not listed under the top 100 Xbox One products bought on Amazon. This is really bad and proofs my point. Kinect is dead.
Microsoft has seen increased Xbox One sales at the $399 price. The PS4 is though still outselling the Xbox One 2:1 according to the latest available sales statistics on VGChartz from week of Sep. 20.
Because the Xbox One is still so far behind the Sony PS4 we expect huge Xbox One deals during Black Friday 2014. Expect dramatic deals on the $399 Xbox One. We predict deals that get your a $100 free gift card and I can also see retailers through in the Xbox One Kinect Sensor for free in Black Friday Xbox One deals, in case it continues to not sell.
Besides the Xbox One, Microsoft also offers this Holiday season the Xbox One COD: Advanced Warfare Bundle selling for $499.99 on November 3. This Xbox One has a 1TB storage, but also no Kinect sensor.
The second bundle is the Sunset Overdrive Bundle selling for $399 starting on October 28. The cool thing about the Xbox One Sunset Overdrive Bundle is that the Xbox One console and controller are white. See the Xbox One console line-up on Amazon.
