The new flagship smartphone of the Chinese electronics giant will contain the sapphire screen
Xiaomi is continuing to be intensely rumored to introduce a new smartphone, as a new report claims that the company would reveal the new Mi5 smartphone. More importantly, the device is said to be equipped with the sapphire display.
The report has been published by DigiTimes, stating that the Xiaomi Mi5 will come at CES 2015 with the highly anticipated sapphire screen, citing Taiwanese sources who are involved with the production. Moreover, it claims that with the new smartphone, the company is targeting those consumers who prefer high-end handsets over the cheap devices.
The Xiaomi Mi5 is rumored to be equipped with the 5.7-inch sapphire screen, which has a 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution. Moreover, it will contain 3GB RAM and a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip. It clearly indicates that the device is going to provide the users with an outstanding multimedia experience. However, no more information about the specification is being revealed.
It’s not the first time that a device is rumored to include the sapphire display. Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were strongly expected by different sources and analysts to contain the particular screen, which ultimately did not happen. Nonetheless, Kyocera, a Japan based multinational electronics company, was able to release a smartphone with the specific component. However, Xiaomi’s Mi5 will definitely outsmart the device.
Xiaomi will face a huge challenge in order to meet the demand of the sapphire. The sources claim that the present supply of sapphire is not sufficient, as the devices with larger screens require more sapphire. As a result, more time will be consumed to produce sapphire crystals, which will ultimately lead to less production rate.
