- Tim Cook believes privacy is a fundamental right and Apple wants to protect it!
In a recent speech Apple’s CEO Tim Cook declared Apple is not the type of company trying to ‘Monetize’ customer’s personal information.
Tim Cook the CEO of Apple Inc. recently gave a speech from Silicon Valley at the Electronic Privacy Information Center’s Champions of Freedom Awards Dinner on Monday.
In the speech Cook criticised other Silicon Valley companies which deceive their customers into revealing their personal information so they can gobble it all up and monetize it. However Cook believes the practice is wrong and Apple is the kind of company where they learn everything about customers for monetarily gains.
“Like many of you, we at Apple reject the idea that our customers should have to make tradeoffs between privacy and security,” Cook said in start of his speech (via TechCrunch). “We can, and we must provide both in equal measure. We believe that people have a fundamental right to privacy. The American people demand it, the constitution demands it, morality demands it.”
Although Cook did not name any of the companies based in Silicon Valley the hint was enough to point towards Facebook and Google. Cook revealed how these free services such as Google and Facebook sell pf private information such as emails, search history, family data and photos for ‘God Knows’ what kind of advertising purposes. Cook hopes one day the customers will see the real face of these companies.
Cook then shared his own views at Apple and declared the company believes privacy is a fundamental right of people since the American people, American constitution and morality demands it.
Cook also shed light on how the officials at Washington are trying every day to invade form policies that will in vade user privacy. The officials at Washington are forcing Apple to give them a ‘Master Key’ so they ca encrypt the data of ordinary citizens and gain access to consumer devices.
Cook related how Apple is going to keep on offering encryption tools to keep data safe in software’s such as iMessage and FaceTime. Cook revealed how US Homeland Security has been waging war with them as it has dubbed pervasive encryption as enabler of terrorism but Cook and everyone at Apple believes the notion is ridiculous.
