- Good Charlotte’s back.
- Waka’s got a few words.
Waka Flocka Flame dropped his Pixels movie end song featuring Good Charlotte earlier this week. Set to a grinding beat, movie director Chris Columbus hopes this’ll be 2015’s “Everything is Awesome.”
Rapper Waka Flocka Flame has teamed up and is featuring Good Charlotte for Sony Pictures summer release Pixels. Sampling the Pac-Man theme, the unexpected team up of artists blast out a warning to the movie villains with “Game On.”
With a catchy electronic rap/rock beat, the song will surely energize the crowd while filing out of the theater. The music /4/be slightly jarring for some audience members with the grating noises overlying the Pac-Man parts.
One of the Madden twins wails out “we won’t be afraid ‘cause we’re the ones who made you” as Waka responds with “you say you ready, well, I’m attackin’” to the villains. Playing up the science fiction element, he also gives warning that “I’m a different gene, a different faction.” Never go against a stronger faction. Even if you’re made of pixels.
“We wanted to send the audience out with a high-energy end-credits song,” said Pixels‘ director Chris Columbus (Harry Potter, Percy Jackson). “We were blown away by the song that Waka Flocka Flame and Good Charlotte came up with.” Well, it was good enough to bring the band out of retirement since 2011.
Pixels revolves around a group of men who grew up in 1980s arcades, battling the bad guys and honing in on skills necessary to save the world now from intergalactic war when aliens believe the game feeds are attacks.
Columbus is looking for a hit to rival last year’s “Everything is Awesome,” the Lego Movie juggernaut that ended up Oscar-nominated in 2015.
“When we heard the power and strength of this song, we got really excited – not only is it the perfect way to close out the film, but to play all summer long.”
Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) all must work together to ward off invaders that are a little upset about a 1982 space capsule. James plays U.S. President Will Cooper, who calls in his friends for a few favors. Enemies include PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders.
If it was popular in 1980s and possibly on an Atari, there’s a good chance the pixelated characters are looking to kill.
In “Game On,” Waka claims he’ll be “the face of a generation,” implying he’ll be the winner. Adding little comments like “get Xbox deleted” calls to the latest generation of gamers and ties together the past and future. Something the heroes need in a world of old school games.
Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan) will be serving as military intelligence and weapon provider in the Sandler-produced movie. Other producers include Columbus, Mark Radcliffe, and Allen Covert. Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling wrote the screenplay while Herlihy adapted a screen story from Patrick Jean’s short film.
KoOoLkOjAk and RAS produced the hit single that’s now available for purchase. Pixels releases on July 24 and the song can be heard during the NBA Finals and on ESPN and ABC.
