The show entitled “Rock the Troops” will feature grand-scale music, comedy, sports and entertainment and will air on Veterans Day 2016
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is certainly going to rock Veterans Day.
The wrestler-turned-actor announced a new star-studded variety show that will support and entertain the U.S. troops stationed abroad. The show, which is entitled “Rock the Troops”, will be a joint venture between Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions and Spike TV and will debut on Veterans Day 2016. Dwayne Johnson made the announcement on Saturday during Spike TV Guy’s Choice Awards.
“It is very important for me to give back to the troops. I really want to make something very special for our boys and girls who are overseas and hopefully we do such a good job that we can do it again and again.” Johnson told Entertainment Weekly backstage.
Dwayne Johnson has a close connection with U.S armed forces since some of his relatives are the members of Navy SEALs.
“I have military in my family, some vets and two Navy SEALs. That was the genesis of that.”
Speaking of the nature of the show, Johnson told. “The idea was to create a show that was epic and big and would entertain and honor our troops,” he referred to USO shows that Bob Hope used to do for almost fifty years, bringing the variety show to military camps and war zones and entertaining them with song, dance, comedy and attractive people. “I loved the idea and I am very serious about calling in favors and giving it a good deal of my energy and time. It is incredibly ambitious but we have a lot of resources to meet the ambition.
The show will feature music, film, comedy and sports and will take place at an overseas military base camp. However, no location has been finalized and no participants have been announced yet. But “San Andreas” star hopes that other stars will get encouragement to join the project.
“You get around these great men and women of the armed forces and you get instant perspective. I can have the life I have and the career I have because of what they do every day,” Johnson said. “They ensure our way of life. We enjoy the freedoms we have because of the brave men and women so the least we can do is give back. I anticipate a lot of my friends who are celebrities, in Hollywood, sports and music, to be a part of this epic event for our troops.”
