Iranian Court Blocks Instagram Access

A report by the Associated Press tells us that a court in Iran has issued a nationwide ban of Instagram this Friday due to some privacy concerns. This is not the only social media app blocked in the country. Others which have previously joined this banned category include Twitter and Instagram’s parent Facebook.

The ban took its origin from a private lawsuit after which the court decided to put down the lid on all access to the Instagram service. Although the ban was handed down to Iran’s Ministry of Telecommunications yesterday but there had been reports that by noon Friday many citizens still had access to the popular photo sharing app and this was primarily in Tehran.

It has been a while since there has been some dichotomy among Iran’s population and the top government officials have been employing social media for political and diplomatic purposes whereas the youth on the other hand has been denied free access. But all hail the proxy servers, they have been a constant companion of the youth in this country and they still find ways to access these social media websites.
