YouTube is planning to launch a subscription-based music service.

Google-owned video service, YouTube, is planning to launch a subscription-based music service, the company confirmed on Tuesday.

YouTube is under fire for attempting to block indie labels on its service, following a failed negotiation over royalties. According to Billboard, YouTube was unable to seal an agreement with some of the leading indie labels in the music industry.

One of them is Beggars Group, which  owns several other labels including 4AD, Rough Trade Records, Matador Records, and XL Recordings.

Adele, for example, is currently signed with XL Recordings. Meanwhile, Queens of the Stone Age is with Matador Records.

YouTube is forced to block the artists because keeping them on the free service will disappoint the paying subscribers. YouTube is expected to launch the subscription service in a few months.

YouTube has successfully reached deals with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and other labels. Sources said that about 95 percent of the labels signed in.

The perks of the paid service will most likely include offline playback and an ad-free experience.
