$50 million has been donated so far and more is on the way
Apple Expanding Charity Program Under Tim Cook
In 2011, as one of the first initiatives that Tim Cook made was to start a program in which Apple matches the donations of their employees to charity. The San Francisco AIDS Foundation has been one of the major recipients, although it is now going to be greatly expanded on a global scale.
Apple employees are some of the most giving in the industry and now they are giving even more. Last Thursday, Apple announced that their program in which they match the donations of their employees is going to move into the global arena, greatly expanding the kind of effect that they have on the world.
At a rate of $25 per hour, Apple is making donations on behalf of their employees, saying that they are very proud of their workers and love to see them be passionate about something that benefits others. They say that philanthropy is “not as a cost center but as a value add,” adding that “companies do well by doing good.”
When it comes to Silicon Valley, it is hard to match the kind of effect that Apple has had. With $50 million already on the plate, there is no reason to think that this is going to slow down moving into the future.
