Verizon Redbox Instant has Shut Down

Verizon and partner Redbox have shut down Redbox Instant by Verizon. The streaming service was launched in 2013, but failed to attract enough customers. Netflix and other competitors like Amazon Prime Instant Video are just not easy to beat.

“The joint venture partners made this decision after careful consideration,” said a Verizon spokesperson to CNET. “The service had not been as successful as either partner hoped it would be. We apologize for any inconvenience this /4/cause our customers.”

The Redbox Instant streaming service has ended working 11:59pm PT last night. I wonder how many customer got cut off in the middle streaming a movie? 

Current Redbox Instant streaming service customers will get a refund for the remaining subscription.

Interstingly, I see still ads for Redbox Instant. The shut down is coming at a bit short notice. It will take a while to stop all promotions and campaigns that have been in place to generate subscriptions. At least the Android app for Redbox Instant has already been removed from Google Play.
