- Tough time in prison
- Released after five months
Former Pirate Bay spokesperson Peter Sunde is a free man again.
Former Pirate Bay spokesperson, Peter Sunde, had been on the run since two years. Also known as the brokep, Peter was finally arrested while he was on a family visit in Southern Sweden in /4/and though none of his crimes were related to violence in any way, he was still shifted to the high-security unit and as a result his prison life was nothing less than hell. While he struggled for depression, there seemed to be no care taken about his vegan diet and consequently he lost more than 15 kilograms during his time in prison.
Back in August when Peter summed up his entire routine, he said “The worst thing is the boredom. I have soy yoghurt and muesli for breakfast, which I was recently allowed to buy from my own money, as the prison doesn’t offer any vegan food.” The good news is that his hard time in prison has finally come to an end today. After suffering 5 torturous months in the prison, he left to meet his loved ones and live as a free man again as he tweeted “My body just got re-united with my soul and mind, the parts of me that matters and that never can be held hostage. #freebrokep #brokepfree.”
Now that he is a free man, the fact that he had been physically and mentally impacted by his stay in prison could be put behind. The former Pirate Bay spokesperson is no longer a fugitive and he can travel the world again. “Things will get easier once I get out,” Peter said previously. “I’ve been a fugitive for two years and could hardly go to conferences or would have to show up unannounced.”
With the end of sentence, we are assuming that Peter would take some time off for his family and friends and regain the strength which he had lost. After that he is expected to start working again on his many Internet related projects including the micro-donation service Flattr and the encrypted chat application Heml.is. And like always activism is going to remain a top priority.
Back in August Peter said, “I’m brimming with ideas and that one of my main goals will be to develop ethical ways of funding activism. You often need money to change things. But most ways of acquiring it require you to compromise on your ideals. We can do better than that.”
