will.i.am launches the PULS Smartwatch

Famous performer will.i.am has launched his smartwatch at a launch party last night. The $399 PULS watch is available in limited quantity.

will.i.am is not just a musician. He has many interests including personal technology. He announced a smartwatch earlier this year. The Puls is a smartwatch with its own SIM card. You can make phone calls with it. The Puls is a cuff style wrist device with a curved display. Will.i.am’s smartwatch has its own OS named aneeda. 

The Puls runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU with 1GB RAM and 16GB storage. It supports HSPA+, GSM, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wifi 802.11b/g/n. The screen of the Plus is a 1.7-inch PMOLED capacitive touch screen.

will.i.am is only making the Puls available right now to consumers who apply for it. If you get invited you can purchase the Puls for $399. The first Puls smartwatch release appears to be a beta test and will.i.am wants to include the feedback of early adopters into the next generation of the Puls expected early 2015.

will.i.am’s smartwatch is ambitious. The fact that it can be used independent of a smartphone might be an advantage to the Apple watch, but then everybody has a smartphone.

Last night will.i.am hosted a launch event for the Puls with celebrity friends including Justin Bieber, Redfoo and French Montana.
