Sony changed its mind and will release The Interview in movie theaters on Christmas Day.
Sony announced that The Interview comedy will be in theaters on Christmas Day. 5 days ago Sony cancelled The Interview in a way that the movie would have never existed. No release in any kind of form. Today Sony announced to not give the hackers what they want and that select theaters will show The Interview.
“We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day,” said Michael Lynton, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, in a statement according to THR.
THR also reports that The Interview will be available online at the same time. It is not clear which VOD service will offer up The Interview. With all the free publicity The Interview got, online demand will be crazy.
James Franco is excited about the news and posted on Twitter “VICTORY!!!!”

The Interview is a college humor comedy. It is entirely harmless and should have never become the reason for the damage the hackers did to Sony in their attack.
