Newcastle Brown Ale kicks off the next level of their 2015 attack on the Super Bowl ads. Watch comedian Aubrey Plaza deliver a call to action for brands to help Newcastle Brown Ale run a Super Bowl 2015 ad.
Last week Newcastle Brown Ale released a spoof of a Doritos Super Bowl Ad that featured Newcastle Brown Ale beer instead of the chips. This was just a warm up. Today Newcastle Brown Ale launched a call to action video featuring comedian Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) to announce the Newcastle’s Band of Brands initiative. Newcastle Band of Brand calls other brands to come together and contribute to afford a Super Bowl Ad.
The Newcastle Brown Ale Band of Brand campaign is aiming to find 20 to 30 brands according to the New York Times to raise money making a Newcastle Super Bowl ad that will air online and in some local markets. The Band of Brand supporters will get their logo and message featured in the Newcastle Super Bowl ad made by advertising agency Droga5.
I am pretty sure Newcastle would have the money to run a Super Bowl Ad, but they cannot because Anheuser-Busch has the exclusivity on beer Super Bowl ads. Newcastle is just being extremely creative again in trying to steal Super Bowl ad buzz like last year. The whole campaign and the Anna Kendrick Video went viral.
Watch below Aubrey Plaza in the hilarious video launching the Newcastle Band of Brands campaign.
It is not clear how serious Newcastle is about really including other brands in a Newcastle Super Bowl Ad. The sign-up for brands on the Newcastle Band of Brands site reads like a joke. Even the email address is funny: [email protected]. There will be more videos coming. Newcastle will be a brand to watch during the Super Bowl 2015 ad season.
Update: Newcastle released a new funny video with Aubrey Plaza and unveiled the first brands that joined the Band of Brands.
