Idina Menzel will sing the national anthem for Super Bowl XLIX.
According to a Jan. 16 update by The Arizona Republic’s Randy Cordova, her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” will be shown on local television station Channel 12 (KPNX). More than 112 million viewers are expected to tune in to the national broadcast. Opera singer Renee Fleming sang the national anthem for Super Bowl XLVIII last year which pitted the Seattle Seahawks against the Denver Broncos.
Cordova rattles off names of other renowned artists who did the honors in years past: Alicia Keys, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Whitney Houston, Harry Connick, Jr. and Cher.
R&B artist John Legend will sing “America the Beautiful” during Super Bowl XLIX, per Cordova. Those who have done so before include Vikki Carr, Ray Charles, Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony and Lea Michele.
Super Bowl XLIX promises to be another star-studded affair. In addition to Menzel and Legend, international sensation Katy Perry will perform during the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show, per Rolling Stone Magazine’s Daniel Kreeps.
Perry revealed during the Divisional Round matchup between the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens on Jan. 11 to NBC’s Willie Geist (via RollingStone.com) that her special guest will be no other than rock n’ roll legend Lenny Kravitz.
She said,”My first special guest is going to be an incredible rock n’ roll icon, a guitar god…He’s the coolest!”

In other news, tickets for the post-game taping of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” were sold out in just two-and-a-half minutes, per a separate update by Cordova. An NBC spokesman said 42,000 people were in an online queue at 9:30 a.m. PT on Jan. 14.
Cordova stresses the network did not release information on how many tickets were actually sold for the show. The venue, the Phoenix Orpheum Theatre, has a capacity of roughly 1,300 people. Since the number of people it can hold is quite limited, the possibility of releasing more tickets remained unlikely.
Comedians Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell will be the guests, per Cordova.
The Arizona Republic says demand for tickets to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” post-Super Bowl XLIX episode has prompted several individuals to post ads on Craigslist.com. Cordova cites a post from a woman who claims to be a target of a scam involving the said tickets.
Showclix.com (via AZCentral.com) maintains that all tickets are non-transferable, and proper identification is necessary in order to release them to buyers.
