Hillary Clinton Asks State Department to Release Her Google Emails

Hillary Clinton is under fire for using her private email during her time as secretary of state. Now, she wants all emails released to the public.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Hillary Clinton has used her private email account during her time as Secretary of State. This probably goes against the state laws dictating that all communications and internal memos be on the record for all to see. Now, she broke her silence and even took to Twitter.

She has asked the State Department to release her emails. She said in the tweet that the State Department said that they will review them for release as soon as possible.

This whole story is obviously ill-timed for Hillary Clinton’s likely bid to run for President in 2016. Ironically, the photo on Hillary Clinton’s Twitter account shows her using a BlackBerry.

Clinton has already handed over 55,000 pages of her emails to the States Department. There is still a discussion around the completeness of that package.

The State Department has defended Hillary Clinton, though. They say that during her time as Secretary of State, there was no rule against using a personal email account for official business as long as it was preserved.

In the States Department press briefing on Wednesday Deputy spokesperson Marie Harf clarified some inaccurate points around Clinton’s email affair. First, Secretary Clinton has not used multiple email accounts. Second, it wasn’t the select committee that brought this email account to light, although I think some have tried to claim that.  In fact, the account’s existence had been known publicly since March 2013 when it was reported on.

In today’s world of digital communication you would think the government has a more stringent digital communication system that is compliant, systematically archived and secure.
