  • The iPad Pro could be a productivity beast.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has told its suppliers to start the production of a large iPad in the second quarter of this year, corroborating a recent report on Apple’s supply issues, which reportedly hampered the production of the company’s 12.9-inch iPads.

Citing sources familiar with Apple’s intentions, the Wall Street Journal says that Apple previously told suppliers to begin the production in the first quarter this year. However, the Wall Street Journal adds that Apple is still experimenting with new designs and features for the business-oriented iPad.

An earlier report claims that supply issues with display panels have forced Apple to move the production schedule to a later date. The delay will give Apple more time to finalize the features of the larger iPad. Sources said that Apple is planning to add USB ports, particularly USB 3.0 technology, to speed up file transfers. This is useful for moving large data from the tablet to another device.

Apple is also said to be contemplating on adding ports for an external keyboard or mouse, sources said. Then, there’s also the capability to speed up the charging time—another feature expected to debut on the new iPad. Furthermore, Apple is reportedly working on a new 12-inch MacBook Air. Meanwhile, Apple declined to comment on the report.
