  • Apple’s New Research Kit Applications Will Help Biomedical Researchers

Apple announces Research Kit that has five applications which will help the bio-medical researchers in doing a host of things.

So now Apple has started thinking about making medical apps. Previously the developers only focused on making games and other social apps for the users. There were very few apps which would help the user with their health.

Then after a few years, every smartphone company started making health apps. Now Apple has made a new Research Kit and they announced it on Monday. These new apps would help the medical researchers.

The medical researchers will be able to tap into the universe of iPhone users and then they will be able to recruit participants. They will also be able to collect data and monitor health outcomes.

The five apps of Apple Research Kit were made public on Monday. Apple also said that they will be giving the developers the open access software for the toolkit in April. This will be done so that other researchers can make applications according to their own needs.

Different people are studying different subjects. For example if you’re studying Parkinson’s disease, asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular disease or breast cancer, then you will be the first one to use the new apps so that you can conduct studies on the matters.

These new apps will be able to help the researchers in tracking the lives of patients. One app helps you with observing patients that have Parkinson’s disease. This will help us with studying the patient so that we know how the patient is going about his day.

Those who download the app, will be able to use iPhone’s GPS, accelerometer, gait, voice strength, balance and memory. Another app is called Share the Journey: Mind, Body and Wellness after Breast Cancer.

This app will help the breast cancer survivors while keeping track of them and they will be able to report for fatigue, sleep disturbances, mood changes and cognitive difficulties. Another app will help with a large scale asthma study. This study will aim to capture the symptom pattern of the patients with asthma.

A statement issued by Mt. Sinai Health System said that the Asthma Health app is designed to help the asthma patient education and self-monitoring. This will also promote positive behavioral changes and reinforce adherence to treatment plans.
