Amazon reportedly plans a new app store offer named Unlocked.
Amazon is reportedly planning to launch a new feature on its Android-based Appstore called “Unlocked” that will offer consumers free access to premium apps and applications with in-app purchases.
The website, TechCrunch, was able to grab leaked slides of the feature, detailing how it works and giving a glimpse to a few paid apps, which included games like Sonic Dash, Monument Valley, Back to Bed, Crazy Backflip, and Princess Room Clean-up. Non-gaming applications—OfficeSuite 8 + PDF Converter, Microsoft Office, and Ultimate Guitar Tabs & Chords—are included on the list.
Some of these apps are free, but have in-app purchases, which consumers can buy. In-app purchases are optional features of an application, such as power-ups in games and additional files that offer a premium experience.
However, details of Amazon’s “Unlocked” feature, such as its launch, price and complete list of apps, are hazy. Developers did not comment on the report because of a signed non-disclosure agreement (NDA).
TechCrunch adds that Amazon “Unlocked” will be promoted via Amazon’s own app and its Appstore will have an option to view the discounted apps. An Amazon Prime for apps will be a boon to the retail giant and its customers.
Those who are fond of games can reap the benefits of an all-access app that’s free. Amazon, too, could see a surge in downloads and profits. Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, uses discounts to drive its products and services. The company has yet to comment on the report.
