Bradley Cooper to direct ‘A Star is Reborn’ Remake

The Oscar nominated actor is in talks with Warner Bros. to direct ‘A Star is Reborn’ remake. And this will be the very first movie of Cooper as director.

Bradley Cooper is in talks with Warner Bros. to make his directorial debut with the studio’s remake of the musical A Star is Born. The movie is basically based on the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Frederic March and centers a movie star who helps an aspiring young actress find fame even though his own career is into a downward spiral due to alcoholism. Apart from directing Cooper will also be producing the movie along with Jon Peters, Basil Iwanyk and Bill Gerber. 

The Warner Bros studio has been busy working on this remake for a very long time now and director Clint Eastwood has been attached to the project since 2011. Eastwood has recently directed Bradley Cooper’s American Sniper. Even Beyoncé was attached to this project but then she had to back off as she got pregnant and Eastwood moved on to Jersey Boys.

Now the 1937 movie has already had two remakes and the original was directed by William A. Wellman and was nominated for eight Academy Awards. The first remake of the movie was in 1954. Judy Garland and James Mason were attached to this movie. Moreover Garland and Mason won best actress and actor Golden Globe Awards for their work in the movie.

Then there was the second remake which starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson and was directed by Frank Pierson.  This second remake won five Golden Globe Awards which also included best motion picture-musical/comedy and also won an Academy Award for best original song. Plus Eastwood had based his version on this second remake. 

Bradley Cooper has also been building a strong relationship with Warner Bros and some sources even told THR that he has been considering numerous other projects to direct. Recently Cooper starred in the breakout hit of last year American Sniper which also became the top-grossing US movie of the year and earned a total of $528.2 million worldwide.

Cooper also has many new projects that such as David O. Russell’s Joy and Aloha by John Wells Adam Jones and Cameron Crowe’s. Cooper is also busy producing Phillips next directorial project, Arms and the Dudes which are currently in production.

Cooper basically has a production company with Todd Philips. Apart from that the actor has been nominated three consecutive Oscar nominations for his role in David O Russell’s film Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.
