Geoffrey Lewis, Juliette Lewis Dad and Veteran Eastwood Actor, dies at 79

Geoffrey Lewis veteran Eastwood actor and father of Juliette Lewis passed away!

Geoffrey Lewis the actor who appeared in numerous Clint Eastwood movies passed away. The method actor was the father of actress Juliette Lewis and died on Tuesday in Woodland Hills, California.

According to his son, Miles Hochhalter Lewis’ Facebook post, the famous 60’s to 80’s actor died of natural causes at the age of 79.

“My Dad Geoffrey Lewis just died today at the age of 79. We were at our Tuesday morning workout at the Motion Picture Hospital in Woodland Hills and he experienced cardiac arrest. He stopped breathing in my arms. We’d had a good morning, talking about my trip to Japan,” Miles Hochhalter Lewis wrote in his Facebook post.

“He was a great actor, story-teller, and a life-time artist. He was both a classic beatnik and a family man and an extraordinary supporter of his many children (more of whom he took on so easily – like my partner Duncan Scott Scrymgeour, and our friends Caprice Conley and Phil Donlon).

“I’m so grateful for what I’ve gotten of his humor, clever sweetness, and independent-mindedness. In the past few years of dealing with his parkinsons and dementia, we were able to pull together as a family and care for him as a team.

“In the past week, he enjoyed a great Easter dinner, remembering old hymns with my Mother Paula Hochhalter, in the company of extended friends and relations. As his primary medical coordinator, I’d like to say that this was a quick, natural death that he – more than anyone else – hoped to be the mystic cap to such a fully-lived life.

“I thank you all for your condolences, here. There are so many who have been so good to me and my family.”

Lewis was born in San Diego but moved to California when he was 10 years old. Lewis married Paula Hochhalter and had a total of nine children with her including Juliette Lewis, Dierdre Lewis, Lightfield Lewis and Matthew Lewis who are all actors.

Geoffrey Lewis was famous for his roles as a western and made multiple guest appearances on TV shows throughout his three decade long career. Lewis’ most memorable Clint Eastwood movie roles were in ‘Every Which Way But Loose’, ‘High Plains Drifter’, ‘Thunderbolt and Lightfoot’ and ‘Any Which Way You Can’.

Lewis was also nominated for a Golden Globe in the 80’s for his role in the 1980 TV series ‘Flo’. Other notable TV works included ‘Barnaby Jones’, ‘Hawaii Five-O’ and ‘Little House on the Prairie’.

Juliette Lewis confirmed the news of her father’s demise by announcing it on her official Instagram account. Juliette shared a picture of herself hand in hand with her father on the red carpet.

Juliette captioned the picture with an emotional statement in which she wrote ‘My Dad’ multiple times. Juliette went on to call her father her ‘Hero’, ‘Friend’, ‘Love’ and her ‘Strength’. Juliette stated her father loved her so much and she will always remain her father’s daughter, as her father will never be gone from her heart.

Juliette also shared the post on her Twitter handle where fans gave her condolences on her loss. Juliette then went on to thank the fans for their love and support.
