Game of Thrones pirated 7 Million Times in 2 Months

Game of Thrones piracy figures touch 7 million prior to season premiere. Irdeto has reported the latest piracy trends in 2015 prior to season premieres of some major shows and Game of Thrones topped the ratings for the highest piracy rate.

Irdeto is a world renowned company leading in anti-piracy and Revenue Assurance solutions conducts an evaluation of the piracy figures for shows. The attention was definitely caught by Game of Thrones figures prior to its season premiere on April 12th.

The show’s piracy figure 45 percent in piracy compared to 2014 that is to that the show, Game of Thrones’ season 1 to 4 were downloaded illegally about 7 million times between the duration of 5th February and 6th April, 2015.

The download number in the same duration in 2014 was 4.9 million downloads so that makes it 36,000 downloads per day compared to per day downloads in 2014. 116,000 downloads per day is the new illegal pirated download rate for Game of Thrones alone.

Irdeto found out that the previous episodes of the show were downloaded 37,000 times just in the first week of April in the US alone. HBO Now’s limited availability in the US itself is a major setback in the piracy problems in the country.

The channel is available on Mac/PC browsers and Apple devices. HBO Now might want to reconsider its availability or take strict towards ensuring proper distribution and save it from piracy.

Irdeto suggested to trace the illegal downloads back to the countries which have revealed Brazil and France to be the highest centers of those downloads. HBO could take steps foresee legal against the pirates or cost them per every download.

Rory O’Connor, Irdeto vice president services contributed the high rate of Game of Thrones popularity. So the best strategy by HBO could be to target the areas where the download rate seems to be on the high and provide the channel to the show’s viewers.

The season premieres of the shows are the cues that instigate the download rates and the show following Game of Thrones in this download trend are The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, Vikings and House of Cards among the top shows to be downloaded the most in the same timeline as Game of Thrones.
