Apple allows third party cables for 12 inch Macbook

Users can now get third-party USB Type-C cables but the charging is still left to Apple’s own domain

If we have ever used any Apple product we would know about its exclusivity and how Apple likes to ensure that its products stay within the Apple circle. This has sometimes often offended users who find it difficult to try other things and tread on their comfort zone instead of the Apple barrier. However, this time Apple has surprisingly granted some flexibility to the owners of its stylish 12-inch new MacBook who can now purchase third-party cables and adapters which will be compatible with the single USB Type-C port.

Apple’s website shows the detailed support page for this Macbook where it has clearly been mentioned that users of this model will be able to use any third party cable, adapter or drive that can work with USB-C. There is only one requirement though – the cables should meet the required USB Power Delivery specification.

The charging function has still been kept exclusive; these third party cables will not be used for charging. For this purpose users will have to use the USB-C Charge Cable and the 29W USB-C Power Adapter which already come with the box.

Apple’s new MacBook with Retina display was released earlier this year and along with it came a Force Touch trackpad and a slim profile which impressed the fans. However, many were still skeptical about the USB-C port which people usually see as the culprit. The problem isn’t entirely in the root of the port. The port is faster, more convenient, and generally better than all current USB standards but since there is one port, users cant simultaneously charge and transfer files which is a big no-no.

This explains why Apple now has a new range of USB-C-compatible cables and adapters as MacBook accessories. These however are pretty expensive obviously. The USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter costs $79 and USB-C to USB Adapter costs $19. Products with similar functions can be purchased for less than half of this price on Amazon.
