Google to start encryption of Ads

Google to start encryption of Ads

Google Says “Vast Majority” Of Ads On Its Platforms Will Be Encrypted By June 30

Internet security is the top priority we all look for in this era of vulnerabilities and Google has been shielding itself well with its move of shifting all of its online services to HTTPS encryption which began back in 2008 with Gmail. The company’s latest blog post states that the encryption is now going to be on for the advertisements too. According to the report, YouTube ads and Google search ads for “a vast majority of users” are already encrypted.

Other advertisements to be encrypted include the “vast majority” of ads served via the Google Display Network, AdMob and DoubleClick and all of this will be ensured by June 30. The ones who are advertising through those platforms will be given the option of serving HTTPS-encrypted ads.

Unfortunately the blog post sheds no details on why this encryption matters so much but it would make much sense if these are being protected for containing sensitive data for targeting and personalization. According to Google, this move is towards a broader “HTTPS Everywhere” initiative.
