Microsoft's Bing passes 20% market share for the first time

Google topped the list while Ask and AOL remained at the bottom

No other search engine can beat the giant Google which has taken over the market and have resided there since quite a while now. Bing made an interesting new entry into the market but unfortunately it couldn’t get itself past this king of the internet but slowly and gradually it did build up the pace to match and according to the latest from comScore it is gaining some space for itself.

In what appears to be the first time ever, Microsoft sites have crossed the 20% milestone which means that more than one fifth of overall search traffic is now owned by the company. Google’s ranking this March as the top leader with 64.4% share wasn’t surprising to say the least. This was 0.1 percentage points less than the previous month but Microsoft has jumped its figures up by 0.3 points since February. Yahoo on the other hand stood at 12.7% with 0.1 points down.

Ask and AOL have had a steady rating at 1.8% and 1.1% market share, respectively, and form the lowest two of the tier. This is what comScore had to say about the raw search numbers;

‘18.9 billion explicit core searches were conducted in March, with Google Sites ranking first with 12.1 billion (up 11 percent). Microsoft Sites ranked second with 3.8 billion searches (up 12 percent), followed by Yahoo Sites with 2.4 billion (up 10 percent), Ask Network with 332 million (up 10 percent) and AOL, Inc. with 203 million (up 10 percent).’
