- Ryan Adams Performs Bryan Adam’s “Summer of 69” 12 Years later on a Fan’s request
Ryan Adams finally performed Bryan Adam’s 80s hit song “Summer or 69” after 12 years of a fan requesting him to do so from the audience and Ryan had him leave
Ryan Adams, 40 and the former band member of Whiskeytown, might have turned soft after his break up from his former girlfriend Mandy Moore. He just performed a song that he didn’t want to perform 12 years ago.
Performing at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville back in 2002, a fan had shouted at him to sing Bryan Adam’s 80s hit song “Summer of 69”. Back then, Ryan had had the lights turn back on, took out $30 from his wallet, gave it to the heckler and asked him to leave. In general, the show was over.
Where people would have thought that Ryan had acted irrationally because people compared him to Bryan Adams seeing that his name was one “B” shy of being the Canadian pop star. However, the people present there with Ryan back in the 2002’s Ryman Concert have another story to tell.
Sara Quinn of Tegan & Sara told in an interview that the duo had opened for Ryan that night. The heckler who had been requesting the song just wasn’t an innocent, enthusiastic fan. He was pretty loud and abusive.
He kept shouting and cursing between songs and people around him were disturbed and kept telling him to stay quite and he just wouldn’t. Sara said that she was pretty sure he must have said other things while he shouted at Ryan to perform the song. The way Ryan handled him was pretty indicative of how Ryan had handled the situation well with his sense of humor.
12 years later, he recently performed at the Ryman Auditorium again and this time, it didn’t need a request to perform Bryan’s song. Ryan performed his own acoustic version of “Summer of 69”.
His version was much more soulful and hence meaningful, giving an echo to the lyrics that might have gone amiss in Bryan’s anthem version. This isn’t the first song of Bryan’s that Ryan is performing. He also sang “Run to You” at the Arlington Theater while performing in Santa Barbara.
