Star Wars spinoff loses its director Josh Trank

The director left the film for seeking original creative opportunities

The Star Wars franchise received a huge blow on Friday when their newly selected director Josh Trank decided to leave the spinoff in order to pursue “some original creative opportunities”.

The 31-year old Josh Trank, who has directed 2012 science fiction thriller “Chronicle”, was on board to direct the second film of Star Wars Anthology with Walt Disney and Lucasfilm but he will not be a part of the film any longer.

The franchise released Trank’s statement on their website StarWars.com to confirm the news.

“After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more exited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans.”

Josh Trank thanked the people associated with the movie and wished them luck for the future.

“I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. /4/the force be with you all.”

According to Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm executives were a bit reluctant to work with Josh Trank when they heard the stories about his unusual conduct during the shooting of 20th Century Fox upcoming film “Fantastic Four” releasing on July 30, 2015. The producers of Fantastic Four were happy with the final product they came up with but also admitted that they have faced challenges in pulling this movie together.

The Lucasfilm executives were not too amused when Josh Trank missed the Star Wars celebrations last month and they had to announce that Trank is unexpectedly ill and cannot join them in celebrations. But it has been confirmed now that Josh Trank will not proceed with them any further.

No replacement for Josh Trank has been announced yet.
