Apple Watch survives 1200m swim as tested by triathlete Ray Maker
Every new release is subject to various tests and Apple Watch was no different. Fortunately for Apple, the device has sailed through all these tests and one thing has been proved time and again that the watch has done justice to its waterproof claim. However, this doesn’t mean that the device will be put to rest soon; some enthusiasts are still not satisfied and triathlete Ray Maker put the watch through three intensive tests.
These tests once again prove the tolerance of the watch against water. The tests started off with a 1,200 meter swim on which Ray was wearing the Apple Watch and his posts recap the tests in which he has claimed that the watch ran smoothly without any disturbances. He also made it clear that the watch doesn’t offer any in-built options for tracking swimming as opposed to the options the device gives for other fitness activities. There are obviously a few hiccups and one of them is the wrists detection feature which becomes slightly problematic while under the water. This can affect the way the heart sensor works and gives its measurement.
The watch was subjected to an even better test when Ray wore it for taking a dive into the pool from a platform which was 5 meters high. He again took dives from 8 meter and 10 meters high platforms and the watch was in perfect working condition. The final test the Apple Watch had to go through was when Ray placed it in a waterproofing chamber. The watch’s IPX7 water-resistance rating means that it can withstand 1 meter of submersion for 30 minutes but Ray has stepped up the game and challenged the watch in a chamber 40 meters deep. The watch emerged glorious from this chamber and showed no signs of any damage.
