The first generation Android Wear smartwatches are no match for the Apple Watch and the newest generation smartwatches. Now the first Android Wear smartwatch fire sale happened over the weekend.
The Apple Watch set a new standard for smartwatches. Consumer Reports has ranked the Apple Watch as the #1 Smartwatch. The first generation of Android Wear watches are totally out matched which triggered now the first fire sale.
AT&T sold the LG G Watch for $50 (with free shipping) instead of the $229 regular price starting last week. For $50 the LG G Watch was attractive again and AT&T’s store was sold out quickly according to PhoneDog. This was likely just the beginning and we will see more fire sales on first generation Android Wear smartwatches as retailers need to clear out inventory.
The first generation Android Wear smartwatches include the Asus ZenWatch, LG G Watch, Moto 360, Samsung Gear Live and Sony SmartWatch 3. We believe that all of these smartwatches will be soon available at steep discounts. The LG G Watch has one of the weakest specs of the six first gen Android Watches with missing GPS and and Wi-Fi. This is why this smartwatch is first of the fire sale block.
Apple has still not caught up with demand for the Apple Watch which started to ship on April 24. Currently customers have to wait 6 to 7 weeks for the shipment of most Apple Watch models. Starting at $349 prices range up to $17,000 depending on the model. There are 34 style combinations available of the Apple Watch.
We have posted several reports on our experience with the Apple Watch. It is not all good, but overall its a novel “luxury” gadget.
