Obama Beats Iron Man’s Twitter World Record

President Obama’s new Twitter account @Potus broke the Twitter World Record for fastest 1 million followers.

The President of the United States has a Twitter account @Potus since /4/18. The account immediately went viral after Obama posted his first Tweet. Word about the @Potus account spread extremely quickly and actually Obama set a World Record.

According to the Guinness World Records, President Obama the Twitter World Record for fastest 1 million followers. Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) has set that record a year ago. It took his account to reach 1 million followers in 23 hours and 22 minutes.

Obama shattered Iron Man’s World Record with the amazing time of under 4 hours and 30 minutes. Who is the new Twitter super hero now? The Potus Twitter account has now 2.13 million followers. He has now more follower than the first Lady at her @Flotus account. The hilarious Twitter exchange between former President Bill Clinton and Obama helped keep the momentum going.

Bill Clinton welcomed Obama to Twitter and asked “Does that username stay with the office? #askingforafriend.” Obviously Bill Clinton refers to his wife Hillary who is running for President of the United States in 2016.

Obama answered with “Good question, @billclinton. The handle comes with the house. Know anyone interested in @FLOTUS?” @FLOTUS is the Twitter handle of The First Lady Michelle Obama. FLOTOS stands for First of the United States of America. If Hillary Clinton becomes the President, Bill Clinton will be the “First Lady.” 

President Obama had to borrow an iPhone to make the first Tweet on @Potus. The historic event has been captured in a Youtube video.

Obama is no stranger to social media. He extensively used the medium during his Presidential campaign. Since he has become President he abandoned the 60 million followers at @BarackObama. I am pretty sure he will back back after his term ends in 2016. 60 million followers is an incredible platform to launch books and things.
