Cyanogen will set up its office in India soon
Cyanogen which is a US-based developer of an open-source mobile operating system is planning to open an office in India within the next three months following the suit of Xiaomi and OnePlus. Recently Cyanogen managed to raise $80 million in funding for their alternative Android OS, CyanogenMod and that too from the big names like Twitter, Qualcomm, Telefónica, and others.
According to a senior company executive, a part of this funding will be used to set up office in India and acquire startups. India is a very attractive market for startups and according to research firm eMarketer, India will overtake US as the fastest-growing smartphone market in 2016 with an estimate of 204 million mobile phones. “India is very attractive. It is one of the hyper-growth markets for mobile today,” said Vikram Natarajan, senior vice-president of global partnerships and distribution at Cyanogen.“What we strongly believe that global giants don’t is that any country with a large population will have the rise of a local ecosystem. We’re going to start seeing that in India,” he added.
Cyanogen in India will start its operations in Bengaluru or Delhi and will work on the latest OS to bring local flavors to it. Cyanogen is not willing to give up despite strong competition and recently it also managed to complete a deal to pre-install Cyanogen OS on Yu’s handsets. Not to forget it is already available for nearly 300 devices, and is pre-installed on the OnePlus One and Alcatel OneTouch Hero 2+.
