Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 8 Recap

The eighth episode of Game of Thrones depicts the great dangers facing Westeros. It seems anything is grist for the mill when it comes to ascending the throne.

The Game of Thrones is back with a flurry of scenes that show that the Westeros’ problems are not exactly over. For one thing, the Iron Throne has many contenders and they are literally scrambling to reach it and sit on it and thus wield power over the legions beneath.

King’s Landing and its suburbia are peacefully ignorant of the consequences that lie in store for them. However, Jon Snow and his forces have a better idea of the rivals that will dog their path for all time to come. 

The imminent doom that the Westeros are going to have to deal with willy nilly is not something resolvable by mere negotiations or empty spiel. It will require war and bloody conflict to settle matters between one of them which is immovable and the other one which is unstoppable. This episode was titled Hardhome and it illustrated the horrific scene of Jon taking on the might of the White Walkers. 

In the beginning we get to see the battle between Daenerys and Tyrion. Tyrion is a good advisor who lends the best nuggets of wisdom known to mankind. Jorah re-enters the slave trade and fights his way to the top.

Better to rage against the dying light and burn out rather than rust out, so to say. Meanwhile, Cersei’s existence has become a living hell that is inescapable to boot. She has a visitor who tries to lend her solace while she is behind bars. And it is none other than Qyburn. 

Arya chooses the many masks of personality available. Which one to don and which one to doff? Sansa discovers that her two siblings are not dead. Yes, they are alive and well and the news is quite shocking not to mention liberating.

Roose and Ramsay decide the fate of Stannis. There are dangers and there are some characteristic turns of the screw when it comes to plot manipulation. Game of Thrones is a delightful series of roller coaster rides when it comes to its unpredictability.  

Finally, Jon returns to Hardhome. The Wildlings have issues with working in synch with the Night’s Watch. And then everything descends into chaos as the forces of death vanquish Hardhome. There is terror and blood everywhere on the battlefield. It is truly a case of pandemonium when the light and dark energies collide on the plains of Hardhome and things fall apart.
