The family of the late singer claims that documentary is unbalance and misleading and contains some untruths

Amy Winehouse’s family has criticized the upcoming documentary about the life of late singer Amy Winehouse and also has decided to distance themselves from the documentary, claiming that it is “unbalanced” and “misleading”.

“The film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that is both misleading and contains some basic untruths.” Amy Winehouse family said in a statement.

“The narrative is formed by the testimony of a narrow sample of Amy’s associates, many of them had nothing to do with her in the last years of her life. Counter views expressed to the filmmakers did not make the final cut.” statement further suggested.

The five-time  Grammy award winner singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse died in July 2011 due to alcohol poising and the documentary entitled “Amy” is somehow creating a perception that her family did too little to help her out.

The documentary is directed by Asif Kapadia, a critically acclaimed filmmaker who has several award-wining films to his credit including “The Sheep Thief”, “The Warrior” and a documentary “Senna” about the Brazilian Formula One driver.

The filmmaker reacted to the issue in this way. “When we were approached to make the film, we came on board with the full backing of the Winehouse family and we approached the project with total objectivity, as with Senna.”

“During the production process, we conducted in the region of 100 interviews with people that knew Amy Winehouse: friends, family, former partners and members of the music industry that worked with her. The story that the film tells is the reflection of our findings from these interviews.”

According to People Magazine, documentary will premiere on Cannes Film Festival in /4/2015 and will be released in the theaters on July 3 of the same year.
