Apple and Google Offer Exclusivity Rights to Mobile Game Developers

Apple and Google, the top two high tech giants on the global scene have decided to vie with one another to offer exclusivity rights to mobile games app developers.



The heat is on…and Apple and Google are daggers drawn with each other to gain the attention of game developers. Both companies want to bring new games to their iOS and Android mobile platforms respectively. And they are willing to go the whole hog in making this dream come true. 

It can only benefit the gamers in the end though. No payments are to be made to the game developers though. The only recognition they will get is the entitlement of exclusivity. They will be mentioned on a top of the list basis by both organizations. 

The premium placement will lead to greater popularity and fame for the game developers. Take a game such as Plants vs. Zombies 2. It is now a permanent fixture on Apple Incorporated’s app pages. This was a loss for Google.

Another game titled Cut the Rope got snatched by Apple too. Both Apple and Google have decided to forgo any divulgence regarding their mobile plans for games. They are keeping it a hushed-up affair. This is the first time such a thing has occurred on the mobile platform. 

But one thing which is for sure is that the battle of the titans has begun. And neither side is about to give in so easily. It will be a fight to the finish. Obviously, when a series of games are available on Apple instead of on the Google platform, people will be switching loyalties. This is what the whole game (pun intended) is about.

According to WSJ, “Apple and Google representatives declined to discuss specifics of their exclusivity efforts. Exclusive titles are a common marketing strategy for videogame consoles, but are new to mobile apps. Their rise marks an escalation in the battle for mobile-device customers, with Apple particularly determined to counter the rise of Google’s free Android software.”

Apple has been facing competition from Samsung of late. So it has decided to concentrate on alternative channels of growth. Meanwhile, Google has a monopoly on the software used in the smart phones of the world. 

“Videogames are critical applications,” said Patrick Mork, a former director of global marketing for Google’s app store and now chief executive of mobile- game company Unspoken Tales. “Not only is it where people are spending their time and money, they also showcase the power of computing on their devices.”

The exciting field of video games is very lucrative indeed. That is because the world is just crazy about the adrenaline-inducing graphics and fast-paced sequences. 

Google and Apple will open new vistas on the horizon of entertainment for the world’s gaming junkies with their personal vendetta to acquire the sympathy of game developers.
