Planned content improvements for Apple TV being scaled back

Apple Balla reported that Apple had big plans for the newest Apple TV model. They had planned to release entire seasons of television shows on-demand, drastically improving their content providing. Unfortunately, they seem to have had a lot of pressure placed on them by the cable companies that provide them with content.

According to the Wall Street Journal, there have been big changes happening to the plans that Apple had in place. Cable companies are not a fan of the cord cutting movement that has taken hold in recent years, and they have done everything they can to fight it when they have the chance.

The new plan for Apple TV improvements will be to only release episodes in bursts, as Hulu Plus does already. Five episodes will be available at a time, and you won’t have the ability to fast forward through them due to other demand from the content providers.

This kind of pressure isn’t expected to anytime soon, if cable companies have their say. Roku, Netflix, Hulu, and others have all faced similar pressure. HBO Go is one of the biggest centers of this fight, since many want to be able to have access to HBO programs without a cable subscription. What tactics Apple will find to battle this kind of competition remains to be seen, but it is worth watching for any new developments. Apple hasn’t made any official announcements yet, so now one knows for sure, but the changes are likely to play a large role in deciding if any customers make the switch.
