The prices under discussion would put Apple’s device at the high end of the category

The development in the iWatch has went quite far down the road and we have reached the point where we are getting to know that the Apple executives are discussing the price of the upcoming iWatch and they are planning to charge around $400 for it. This is obviously not the confirmed price. Things are expected to finalize soon because the product is expected to start shipping from next year. From what we have managed to get out of the sources we can see that the iWatch is going to come in varying models with different price ranges including some lower priced versions too.

Though we are expecting Apple to talk about the iWatch on their September 9th event but we aren’t really sure whether they are going to have a final word on the price by that time. Apple is going to announce their iPhones on the event and also introduce the concept of the iWatch but they have refused to comment any further on the matter. The iWatch is something very important for Apple because with the release of this product, Apple would have a new market segment which would be its first since the 2010 introduction of the iPad.

Even the tablets area is going to be evolved by Apple as it looks forward to redefine an existing, albeit young, category which is currently dominate by Jawbone and Fitbit, which make fitness bands, and other smartphone makers Samsung, LG, Motorola and Timex, which have waded into the burgeoning smart watches business. If Apple decides to stick with this pricing decision thent hat means that the iWatch is going to be placed on the high end scale since Samsung’s Gear 2 Silver smart watch costs about $300 and Google-powered devices around $200. The highest price tag reserved so far is for the upcoming Ironman One GPS+ watch by Timex which apparently carries a $400 price tag and comes with its own 3G wireless connection.

Apple is certainly aware of the growing competition and while talking at the D: All Things Digital Conference, Tim Cook also acknowledged that wearable devices carried a lot of promise. “There are lots of gadgets in this space right now, but there’s nothing great out there,” Cook said last year. “But none of them are going to convince a kid that hasn’t worn glasses or a band to wear one … There are a lot of problems to solve in this space. … It’s ripe for exploration. I think there will be tons of companies playing in this space.”
