Humana is the first of hopefully many
Apple Partnering With Insurance Companies
Apple’s HealthKit was one of the more interesting announcements that they made in September, even though many people are waiting on the Apple Watch to see how it is going to play out. That hasn’t stopped Apple from partnering up with groups to find the right way to take full advantage of the service.
The first major partnership that they have is with Humana, an insurer with 13 million subscribers across the country. For a few months now, they have been working on sharing health information between professionals to determine the kind of cost that the plan will have. In fact, 60% of people who have been polled said that they would use wearable technology like this if it meant that they might be able to save money on a monthly basis.
They have also approached several other companies about doing something similar in which they will encourage major health providers to use HealthKit as a way to store data and make it possible to keep an eye on customers after they have left the hospital, greatly improving the kind of care that they provide to people.
It still remains to be seen just how effective this is going to be. HealthKit had a number of problems at the start, although it appears that Apple has fixed them now and they are back on track. With the right kind off App, and with the help of the Apple Watch, HealthKit will be able to completely revolutionize the way that people view healthcare.
