Apple Pay Faces first Stress Test on Black Friday 2014



 
 

Black Friday 2014 will be first big shopping day the new Apple Pay system will have to survive.

Apple Pay is coming in October. The Apple Pay functionality will be part of the iOS 8.1 release rumored for Oct. 20th release. This means Apple will have about one month to make sure it is running smoothly before the first big shopping day of the Holiday season. Black Friday 2014 in-store sales will actually already start Thanksgiving Day. Some stores will already open Thanksgiving Day morning. These stores will be open for about 36 hours for Black Friday.

While the big Black Friday stores like Walmart and Best Buy. Macy’s though has announced to support the Apple Pay system. The list of stores include Bloomingdales, ToysRUs, Sephora, petco, Nike, Walgreens, Duane Reade, Staples, Disney Store and of course Apple Stores. The Apple Black Friday Sale is very popular despite the small discounts. It could be an advantage on Black Friday to pay with the iPhone 6 to save time in the register queue.

The load on the Apple Pay system will though be limited as only iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users will be able to use Apple Pay terminals in stores. It also is not clear yet how many Apple Pay terminals will be rolled out in time of Black Friday. According to Apple 220,000 stores will accept Apple Pay.

When is Black Friday 2014? Black Friday 2014 is on November 28th.
