Apple is reportedly bringing its Force Touch technology to its upcoming iPhones, sources told the Wall Street Journal. Announced as an exclusive feature of the Apple Watch, Force Touch technology takes multi-touch capabilities to the next level by allowing users to control the pressure applied to the screen. Apple does this by using tiny electrodes around the display. The result? Force Touch can distinguish a light tap from a deep press.

Sources with knowledge of Apple’s plans said that the next-generation iPhones, due to launch later this year, will feature the touch technology. Apple plans to retain the current sizes—4.7-inch and 5.5-inch—and screen resolutions on its upcoming iPhones, sources added. However, the company is reportedly adding a new color: pink. Currently, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus come in gold, silver, and space gray. A pink-colored iPhone will be a welcome addition.

As for the Force Touch technology on the new iPhones, a new breed of applications could emerge. Developers, for example, can create applications that take advantage of the touch technology. A good example would be a piano app, which can alter its volume, depending on the pressure applied to the screen. The same innovation can be used in games. The iPhone is a moneymaking machine, and Apple wants to keep it that way. Meanwhile, Apple didn’t comment on the report.
