Apple to Bring Transit Directions to iOS 9 Maps

Apple is looking to add some new features for its iOS 9 and it looks like it will add Transit Directions feature to the latest operating system.

The company is looking to bring built in Transit directions to its Maps app. This new feature will be available once Apple releases iOS 9. Back in 2012 when Apple stopped using Google Maps and started using its own Maps apps, it left out Transit directions.

Some were suggesting that the Transit directions feature would be added in the iOS 8. Now it looks like Apple held back this feature for the iOS 9. The users will get the update for iOS 9 later this year and then they will be able to use Transit directions, according to 9to5Mac.

Last year Apple had full plans to release the Transit directions app in the iOS 8 but it made a last second decision to take the feature out of the iOS 8. Now the users would get the ability to plan trips.

They will also get the estimated time of arrival when they will be travelling through bus, trains or subways. The users are going to get multiple trip options. You will also get a special map view which will be detailing local transit stops with Satellite, Hybrid and Standard visualization options.

Besides this Transit directions feature, Apple is also working on building on its indoor mapping capabilities. So now the users would also be able to navigate through landmarks and building with granular indoor directions. But this feature for indoor mapping will come in other updates.

We will most probably see this OS released this WWDC next month. Apple has also bought two new companies. The names of these companies are Embark and HopStop. Both of these companies mastered in transit mapping and direction apps of iPhones.

They exclusively built apps for iOS devices. Now both of these companies have been bought by Apple so that the American giants can use their transit mapping in their new Transit directions feature in the iOS 9.
