Apple Watch Generates more than $1 Billion in Sales

A new analyst report says that Apple Watch pre-orders will top 2.3 million world-wide. This translate in about $1 Billion in Sales for Apple.

Apple has likely generated already $1 billion in Apple Watch sales alone from pre-orders around the world. All Apple Watch models have a delivery time frame of June, which could mean that customers who order now will have to wait up to 2 months before the Apple Watch arrives.

Highly regarded Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI issued a report according to 9to5Mac that the estimated global Apple Watch pre-orders are at least 2.3 million. Earlier this week an online shopping analyst company said that Apple Watch pre-orders reached 1 million in the United States. Kuo’s number is almost conservative.

The KGI analyst said that 85% customers ordered the Apple Watch Sport and 15% took the more valuable Apple Watch. Less than 1% opted for the Apple Watch Edition.

Taking this into account Apple generated more than $1 billion in initial sales with the Apple Watch.

We don’t have many numbers from competing Smartwatch vendors, but we have them from Pebble. The new Pebble Time raised $20 million on Kickstarter and Pebble is one of the most successful Smartwatch players until now.

The Apple Watch introduces a new design and iOS-based user interface created specifically for a smaller device. Apple Watch features the Digital Crown, a new way to scroll, zoom and navigate fluidly, without obstructing the display. The Digital Crown also serves as the Home button and a quick way to access Siri. The Retina display on Apple Watch features Force Touch, a technology that senses the difference between a tap and a press, providing a new way to access controls within Apple Watch apps.

The Apple Watch introduces the Taptic Engine and a built-in speaker that together discreetly enable an entirely new vocabulary of alerts and notifications you can both hear and feel. Apple custom-designed its own S1 SiP (System in Package) to miniaturize an entire computer architecture onto a single chip. Apple Watch also features Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 4.0 to pair seamlessly with your iPhone. Besides the smart watch features the Apple Watch keeps time to within 50 milliseconds of UTC, the universal time standard when synching regularly with the iPhone.

The Apple Watch starts at $349 for the small case (38mm) Sport Edition. The Apple Watch Pre-order starts on April 10th in 9 countries (Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK and the US) and the Apple Watch ships on April 24.
