Apple’s Spring Forward Event; What’s in Store?

Here’s what we think the event is going to highlight today

Apple has done impressively well as far as secrecy is concerned and we have been hearing time and again about the extents the company has gone to for the sake of keeping their developments a secret. The much awaited Spring Forward event is now around the corner and we still have no idea about what we are going to see.

The Apple Watch is the only sure thing we know they have in store for us and with yesterday’s Daylight Saving Time in the United States, we are highly expecting to see this gadget at the event. Apple was generous enough to give us a look last year in September but till now there have been no details on the smartwatch and we are looking forward to today’s event for some more light on the highly anticipated smartwatch of the year. So today we might hear about the launch dates and even some pricing hints. With Apple Watch comes the inevitable role of the apps on which the success of the gadget is hanging and over the past few months we have been seeing developers’ work on the apps as Apple allowed them to show off what they have been designing for their product.

Some important pricing predictions have also been made as the event comes closer and Daring Fireball’s John Gruber has presented his take on the pricing details in the following words;

“[T]he steel Apple Watch, that’s something that most people still look at as for them. And so they expect the starting price to be around $500, and the various leather and metal band options to cost $100-300 more. But if the starting price for the steel Apple Watch is $500, I don’t see why Apple Watch Sport exists at $350. $150 difference does not justify the difference. If they were that close in price, there’d only be one of them. […] With Sport and steel Apple Watches, everything you can see or touch is different. Different metal (aluminum vs. steel), different finishes (matte vs. highly-polished), different displays (glass vs. sapphire), different case backs (plastic vs. ceramic and sapphire).”

What else to expect

Though the Apple Watch has been the focal point for spectators all through this year and the previous one, there might be some other important developments too which will be coming our way through the event today.

The Macbook line

Talks about an update for the current MacBook Air line have been circulating around for some time now and some details have been leaked for a new 13-inch model and the 11-inch MacBook Air is also most definitely going to get an update as well. The updates are most likely going to include a shift shift to Intel’s latest Broadwell processors and the rest of the specs would remain the same.

The Retina MacBook Pro lineup is also due for an update for the 13 inch family and this one would also feature chips released in January.

The coming of a 12″ Retina MacBook Air is also possible but we don’t see this option as being very likely to happen sooner though there have been quite some rumors revolving around this idea lately. But if the most recent of the rumors are to be believed then the shipments are not expected to begin any time before the second quarter of this year so there is still plenty time for it to come out.

iPad Mini

This is yet another area which is possible but not very likely to be the centre of attention at the event. The iPad Mini might see an update in the new iPad mini 4 in which we are expecting to see a move to an A8 chip and 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
