A lot of anticipation rose as unexpected players came through in the Australian Open 2015 tournament. With big bulls like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal already out of the picture. It was time for the quarter finals to take place.

The Czech player Tomas Berdych eliminated Nadal breaking his winning streak over him since 2006. After this great accomplishment in the tournament, Berdych now had to look at the next quarter final to see who he would be facing in the semi-final.

The men coming to the ground included the 29 years old Scot player representing UK and currently world no. 6, Andy Murray and the “Wild Thing”; the 19 years old Aussie showman Nick Kyrgios. Nick commented pre-match that he will be giving it his all since he had exceeded his own expectations in this tournament despite a back injury.

Andy Murray had only lost one set during the tournament and coached by Amelie Mouresmo, he definitely looked to be in good shape. Walking out on the court, both players looked motivated as the crowd gave both pf them a similar welcome. Murray lost the toss and was set to serve first.

Kyrgios started enthusiastic but Murray showed some experienced and skillful turns which made Kyrgios chase the ball and Murray got the first point two minutes in the game. Kyrgios leveled the match 1 all after breaking a long volley. The match went on as Murray stepped ahead of the young Aussie with an out swing but he was soon caught on and the match was 2 all.

Murray then went on to score two more games, setting the par at 4-2 when Kyrgios finally managed to win a game and close the distance by a point. It was a chase that Murray kept extending when he won another game and set the game at 5-3 and with a tremendous break, won the set by 6-3.

At the start of the second set, Kyrgios looked for some payback as he scored two early points over Murray who chased the 2 points by winning a point of his own. The crowd watched in harmony as the homeboy tried to elevate his game and beat the Scot’s confidence. Murray even took a little lunch break as he struggled to reach the ball which had earned Kyrgios his second point.

With some energy in him, Murray went ahead to level the score once more. Kyrgios, determined to win, scored another game point and went one point up. It was then a chase up till 6th point where Kyrgios took the lead and Murray struggled to keep the board level as they battled it out to 6-6 with the game point to win. With the emotions running high, it was a volley of patience and endurance and the calm Murray prevailed over the frustrated Kyrgios as he scored the 2nd set for himself by 7-6. It was close but victory for the Scot in one corner and a racquet smashing Aussie on the other.

Excitement rose by the start of the next and deciding set for the game. With Murray seeming to be more in control than ever and Kyrgios loosing his cool ever more so played a game that was worth watching.

With the score board pretty much the same as the first set, Kyrgios was only able to keep up with the pro player till the 2nd point where they were 2 all. Murray gained momentum and won double points, limiting Kyrgios to his 3rd point and played masterfully to acquire 6th point with Kyrgios 13 errors in total which won Murray the set and incidentally the match.

It seemed an easy win for the Scot but Murray commented later on that Kyrgios was a remarkable player who had definitely given him a run for his money. He sees a bright future ahead for the young player.

They embraced after the match as Murray whispered words of encouragement to the youngster. Murray is now set to face Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals.
